KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- This diamondback rattlesnake lies across the road near Launch Pad 39B at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The diamondback is Florida's largest venomous snake and may exceed six feet in length. It occurs throughout Florida in a variety of dry habitats, such as pinelands, scrub and golf courses. Kennedy shares a boundary with the Merritt Island Wildlife Nature Refuge, which is a habitat for more than 310 species of birds, 25 mammals, 117 fishes and 65 amphibians and reptiles.
