NASA's Dawn spacecraft imaged this terrain, adjacent to Occator Crater on Ceres, which is immediately to the left of this view. This relatively smooth, lightly cratered area is part of the ejecta blanket of Occator -- material thrown out by the force of the impact that created the crater, approximately 80 million years ago. Dawn took this image on April 18, 2016, from its low-altitude mapping orbit, at a distance of about 240 miles (385 kilometers) above the surface.
