Orientale Basin Along the Moon’s Limb -- art002e009594

FD06_fd6 Lunar Flyby Wiseman

art002e009594 (April 6, 2026) – The Artemis II crew captured this view of the Moon’s Orientale basin during the lunar flyby. The basin stands out as a broad, circular feature surrounded by rugged terrain. Near the Moon’s limb, sunlight strikes the surface at a low angle, creating shadows that accentuate craters, ridges, and other topographic features. Secondary crater chains associated with Orientale extend across terrain to the northwest and south of the basin. Credit: NASA
