Studying Orion's heat shield

Engineers from Ames Research Center and Marshall Space Flight Center remove samples from Orion's heat shield which flew on Exploration Flight Test 1 in 2014. The heat shield protected the spacecraft from temperatures reaching 4000 degrees F.

Engineers from NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California, and Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, remove samples on May 4, 2015, from Orion's heat shield which flew on Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1) in 2014.
