In-Space Production of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells for Clinical Application (StemCellEx-IP1) evaluates using microgravity to expand and mass-produce human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Because they can transform into any type of cell in the body, iPSCs are being used to develop regenerative medicine therapies for many diseases. Producing iPSCs in space could lead to the ability to generate a greater number of high quality cells, significantly improving patient outcomes for many currently uncurable diseases here on Earth.
