BioNutrients-3 builds on results from the BioNutrients and BioNutrients-2 investigations, seeking to develop a method to produce on-demand nutrients and supplement food stores. Producing vitamins and other nutrients in-flight could help maintain the health of crew members on long-duration missions while reducing launch mass and volume. BioNutrients-3 incorporates new food safety features as well as bioengineered yeast and bacteria.
