Pictured is the first Avcoat manufacturing demonstration unit for the Orion crew exploration vehicle. Approimately 30 percent of the full five-meter heat shield shows Avcoat thermal protection materail attached (at various stages of completion) to a surrogate Orion heat shield carrier structure.
