The Lab instituted a suite of safe@work procedures — based on the guidance of occupational safety medical personnel — to ensure those working at JPL are social distancing, wearing protective equipment and have ready access to hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies during the coronavirus pandemic. Clark is one of a small subset of project personnel whose mission-essential job required physical access to the facility. Countdown to Launch
The concrete foundation placed Dec. 18 (foreground) for Stennis Space Center's future A-3 Test Stand has almost completely cured by early January, according to Bo Clarke, NASA's contracting officer technical representative for the foundation contract. By late December, construction on foundations for many of the test stand's support structures - diffuser, liquid oxygen, isopropyl alcohol and water tanks and gaseous nitrogen bottle battery - had begun with the installation of (background) `mud slabs.' The slabs provide a working surface for the reinforcing steel and foundation forms.

S73-36162 (November 1973) --- Dr. Robert S. Clark changes magnetic tape on the Radiation Counting Laboratory's mini-computer. The computer calculates the total content of radioactive isotopes in the lunar materials.  Some 120 different samples from the six landings on the moon have been studied by the lab's gamma spectrometer, which generates 65,000 individual data points of each sample.  Measurements of radioactive isotopes reveal how long they have been near the surface, and also reflect how much the rocks have been eroded by micrometeorites. Photo credit: NASA

S73-36161 (November 1973) --- In the Radiation Counting Laboratory sixty feet underground at JSC, Dr. Robert S. Clark prepares to load pieces of iridium foil -- sandwiched between plastic sheets -- into the laboratory's radiation detector. The iridium foil strips were worn by the crew of the second Skylab flight in personal radiation dosimeters throughout their 59 1/2 days in space. Inside the radiation detector assembly surrounded by 28 tons of lead shielding, the sample will be tested to determine the total neutron dose to which the astronauts were exposed during their long stay aboard the space station. Clark sat-1, launched to the Interational Space Station aboard the SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft, was developed by students at Clark Next High School in Tokyo, Japan, and its primary mission is to transmit voice and imagery data to ground control stations on Earth.

The Test and Operations Support Contract (TOSC) Kimberly-Clark RightCycle program team of April Smith and An Huynh recently earned a Fiscal Year 2021 Sustainable Environment Awareness (SEA) Award Citation. The Kennedy Space Center employees received the honor in SEA’s Waste Management category. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is being replaced with Kimberly-Clark brand, where possible, as collection containers are placed in all applicable TOSC facilities at Kennedy. All supplier PPE is collected, placed in a container, and shipped back to the company to be recycled into usable products.
