Burbank on the usage of a special device that enables the mission specialist to rappel from a shuttle in trouble on the ground.  A nearby crew-training mockup in the JSC's Systems Integration Facility allowed Burbank and his six crew mates the opportunity to train for procedures to follow in the event of the need to evacuate a distressed shuttle's cabin while on the ground.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -  In the Space Station Processing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, STS-115  Mission Specialist Daniel Burbank is practicing folding a sequential shunt unit launch to activation multilayer installation blanket. Burbank and other crew members are at the center for Crew Equipment Interface Test activities.  Equipment familiarization is a routine part of astronaut training and launch preparations.  The mission will deliver the second port truss segment, the P3/P4 Truss, to attach to the first port truss segment, the P1 Truss, as well as deploy solar array set 2A and 4A. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -   Inside Atlantis' cockpit, STS-115 Mission Specialists Daniel Burbank (front) and Steven MacLean, are taking part in a simulated launch countdown, the culmination of Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities.   The TCDT is a prelaunch preparation for the mission that is scheduled to lift off in a window opening Aug. 27. During their 11-day mission to the International Space Station, the STS-115 crew will continue construction of the station and attach the payload elements, the Port 3/4 truss segment with its two large solar arrays.

Burbank are part of the team effort to ready the International Space Station (ISS) for permanent habitation.  These two mission specialists and the other STS-106 astronauts and cosmonaut are continuing electrical work and transfer activities as they near the halfway point of docked operations with the International Space Station. In all the crew will have 189 hours, 40 minutes of planned Atlantis-ISS docked time.

JSC2000-E-23458 (21 September 2000) --- Astronaut Daniel C. Burbank, STS-106 mission specialist, addresses the crowd that visited Ellington Field's Hangar 990 to welcome home the STS-106 astronauts.  The seven-man crew landed approximately 24 hours earlier in Florida, wrapping up a 4.9 million-mile mission in which more than three tons of equipment were delivered to the international outpost.

Burbank, wearing a training version of the extravehicular mobility unit (EMU), stands on a platform that will allow him to be lowered into water for an underwater rehearsal of a space walk scheduled for STS-106.  The EVA training is being conducted at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL)in the Sonny Carter Training Center near the Johnson Space Center (JSC).

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - The STS-115 crew poses in front of the orbiter Atlantis, which brought them safely back from space to NASA's Kennedy Space Center.  From left are Mission Specialists Daniel Burbank, Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper and Steven MacLean; Pilot Christopher Ferguson; Commander Brent Jett; and Mission Specialist Joseph Tanner.  During the mission, Tanner, McLean, Burbank and Piper completed three spacewalks to attach the P3/P4 integrated truss structure to the International Space Station.  Main gear touchdown was at 6:21:30 a.m. EDT.  Nose gear touchdown was at 6:21:36 a.m. and wheel stop was at 6:22:16 a.m.  Atlantis traveled 4.9 million miles, landing on orbit 187.
