This false color image shows part of Harris crater (center of image) and an unnamed crater (top of image). These craters are located north of Hellas Planitia. At the upper right part of the Harris Crater rim, there is a fan shaped form. Fans can be created by different processes. Delta deposit fans are created under water, when a river flow slows down and drops sediments from the water column. These sediments are typically fine grained silts. Deltas form over time and can take many shapes as the river changes channels. The Mississippi River delta is formed this way. Alluvial fans are created in dry climates with short fluid seasons. In this case a single stream hits a topographic opening (think ravine) and sheds the rocks and sand down hill. The alluvial fan shape is created from the single opening. Either way, fans form by the action of a fluid. The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image. ![For me, I picked up an interest for engineering through drawing. When I was young, I was really big into art. Like most science-drawn younger kids, I would draw Pokémon, I would draw Dragon Ball Z, things like that. I guess my passion for art and drawing helped me to get into CAD (Computer Aided Design) modeling — things like 3D modeling and 3D printing. And with CAD modeling, you need to learn how to figure out the dimensions of things, what material they’re made out of, xyz. So that got me deeper into engineering. There’s definitely an artistic component to science. You can just look at James Webb [Space Telescope]. It looks artistic. If you look at the beveled mirrors, or how the bat wings on the side fold out, I would argue that that is artistic in a sense. But it also matches perfectly with its scientific functions. So not only does it need to fit into the rocket, but it also needs these beveled mirrors to reflect light at a specific angle. So, I think art and science blend pretty well. The Black History Month program was presented at Marshall Space Flight Center with guest speaker Lt. General Stayce Harris. General Harris is the Inspector General of the Air Force and she is the first African American female Lieutenant General in the American military. The topic of her presentation was "African Americans in Times of War". The presentation was followed by an ethnic food sampling. Harris Jr. is pictured before a training session at the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F). Harris, STS-55 mission specialist, is assisted by Laney Lee. Minutes later, Harris was in a 25-feet deep pool, simulating a contingency extravehicular activity (EVA). There is no scheduled EVA for the 1993 flight but each spaceflight crew includes astronauts trained for a variety of contingency tasks that could require exiting the shirt-sleeve environment of a Shuttle's cabin.
