This photograph was taken during the Skylab-3 mission (2nd marned mission), showing Astronaut Owen Garriott enjoying his meal in the Orbital Workshop crew wardroom. The tray contained heating elements for preparing the individual food packets. The food on Skylab was a great improvement over that on earlier spaceflights. It was no longer necessary to squeeze liquified food from plastic tubes. Skylab's kitchen was so equipped that each crewman could select his own menu and prepare it to his own taste.

iss042e034821 (12/08/2014) --- Its dinner time on board the International Space Station (ISS) for Expedition 42 Flight Engineer Samantha Cristoforetti of the European Space Agency (ESA) on 8 December 2014. She is in the process of preparing a tasty specially designed food packet. The food on board the ISS is developed by food scientists at the Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas.

Sellers, right, and Thomas Reiter of the European Space Agency, share a meal on the flight deck of the Space Shuttle Discovery during the STS-121 mission. Reiter later joined the Expedition 13 crew aboard the International Space Station, where he'll be performing research and other tasks for the next six months.

S126-E-013902 (27 Nov. 2008) --- One of Endeavour's crew members recorded this image of one of the trusses on the International Space Station as crewmembers of both the shuttle and orbital outpost prepared to go separate ways on the following day. The nine astronauts and one cosmonaut did find time to work in a Thanksgiving meal and some brief traditional ceremonies.

Sandra Piernas (right), an employee at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center, serves NASA retiree Dewey Little during 2010 Old Timers' Day activities May 14. Each year, the Stennis Recreational Association welcomes back former employees for a meal and time of fellowship at the facility's Cypress House. The event offers current employees the opportunity to hear stories about early work at the center. Stennis was established in the 1960s to test engines and rocket stages for the Apollo Program.

S126-E-013836 (27 Nov. 2008) --- Stationed near the shuttle's galley and stowage lockers, astronauts Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper and Shane Kimbrough, STS-126 mission specialists, assemble the elements of Thanksgiving dinner on the middeck of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, while the orbiter is docked with the International Space Station. A Russian cosmonaut and seven other astronauts are not far away from the scene and all ten shared the meal and observance at a common place and time, on the eve of the scheduled Nov. 28 undocking of the shuttle and station.

STS032-03-026 (9 - 20 Jan 1990) --- Astronaut James D. Wetherbee, pilot, having run out of shelf space, uses his mouth to temporarily "park" a spoon during meal time preparations on the mid-deck of the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Columbia. He prepares to open a can while a packet of tortillas floats in the foreground. This picture was used by the astronauts at their January 30, 1990 Post Flight Press Conference (PFPC) at Johnson Space Center (JSC).

S122-E-007054 (9 Feb. 2008) --- Not long after the hatches were opened on the International Space Station and STS-122 crewmembers were able to come onboard, eating utensils were brought out as nine astronauts and a cosmonaut shared a meal time. From the left foreground are astronauts Rex Walheim, Daniel Tani, Steve Frick and Alan Poindexter. Cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko is in the background. Tani and Malenchenko are members of the Expedition 16 crew, but Tani's time in that position is short as he soon will be switching out duties with ESA astronaut Leopold Eyharts (out of frame).

STS085-359-032 (7 - 19 August 1997) --- During off-duty time astronauts N. Jan Davis, payload commander, and Stephen K. Robinson, mission specialist, try their hands at chopsticks while having a meal of some Japanese rice on the Space Shuttle Discovery's mid-deck. Astronaut Curtis L. Brown, Jr., mission commander, is partially out of frame at left. Robinson and Brown are wearing special wrist bands that support a Detailed Supplementary Objective (DSO) experiment. Though Japan's National Space Development Agency (NASDA) had no crew members aboard, it did have a major payload -- the Manipulator Flight Demonstration (MFD) hardware -- in Discovery's cargo bay.
