Flight engineers Marta Bohn-Meyer and Bob Meyer and pilots Ed Schneider and Rogers Smith flew the triple-sonic SR-71 in high-speed research experiments at NASA Dryden.

This photo shows the X-29 during a 1991 research flight. Smoke generators in the nose of the aircraft were used to help researchers see the behavior of the air flowing over the aircraft. The smoke here is demonstrating forebody vortex flow. This mission was flown September 10, 1991, by NASA research pilot Rogers Smith.

S86-28889 (14 Feb. 1986) --- Kennedy Space Center Director Richard Smith points out a portion of a solid rocket booster segment to astronaut Sally Ride and to the chairman of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident, William P.
