Total Lunar Eclipse and Bloodmoon 2025
ISS012-E-15050 (12 Jan. 2006) --- Sandusky Bay is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 12 crew member on the International Space Station. Sandusky Bay appears with brown muddy water (left) in this view. The bay leads out into southern Lake Erie (top). The small city of Sandusky occupies the northeastern shore of the bay (center of the image). Highway 6 can be seen arcing around the south side of the city. Ferries connect Sandusky to Pelee Island (not visible) in the middle of the lake. In earlier days, Sandusky Bay was known as one of the best protected port sites in the Great Lakes. The most striking aspect of this image is the flow lines of the brown water in and out of the mouth of the bay. Slight movement of lake surface water, driven mainly by wind, causes a small ebb and flow of bay water. Sediment-charged water is derived from agricultural fields along the Sandusky River upstream. Mud plumes in Lake Erie originate from prior pulses of muddy water from the bay. According to scientists studying the station photos, it appears that water was flowing into the bay when this image was taken. Sandusky lies midway between Toledo and Cleveland, both about an hour’s drive away.

Employees supporting Artemis were invited to attend an appreciation event, “The Road to the Moon,” at Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio.  On Thursday, Nov. 21, please join NASA employees and support service contractors for Artemis Friends and Family Day. Employees had the opportunity to hear from center leadership and see the Orion module that flew around the Moon and back during 2022’s Artemis I mission.   Lockheed Martin presented an article flown on Artemis I to Robert Overy.   Experts have subjected the spacecraft to extreme conditions in Armstrong’s test facilities. The ogive panels protect Orion's crew module from harsh acoustic conditions at launch and in case of an abort. Acoustic testing of the ogive hatch starts today at Space Power Facility at NASA Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook station in Sandusky, Ohio takes place on July 19, 2017. The ogive is installed in the Reverberant Acoustic Chamber where it will be blasted with 161 db of sound to simulate launch conditions.

Acoustic testing of the ogive hatch starts today at Space Power Facility at NASA Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook station in Sandusky, Ohio takes place on July 19, 2017. The ogive is installed in the Reverberant Acoustic Chamber where it will be blasted with 161 db of sound to simulate launch conditions.

NASA’s In-Space Propulsion Facility located at Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky Ohio is the world’s only high altitude test facility capable of full-scale rocket engine and launch vehicle system level tests. The facility supports mission profile thermal vacuum simulation and engine firing. The engine or vehicle can be exposed for indefinite periods to low ambient pressures, low-background temperatures, and dynamic solar heating, simulating the environment  the hardware will encounter during orbital or interplanetary travel. The In-Space Propulsion Facility (ISP) at NASA’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility
NASA’s Orion spacecraft is loaded into the agency’s Super Guppy aircraft at the Launch and Landing Facility runway at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Nov. 21, 2019. The spacecraft’s crew and service modules are flying to NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, for full thermal vacuum testing. In this unique facility, the crew and service modules will be put through extensive testing to ensure they can survive the rigors of launch, space travel, re-entry and splashdown. The Orion spacecraft will launch atop the agency's Space Launch System rocket on Artemis I.
