Sharad Bhaskaran, mission director for Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic, delivers the monthly Tech Talk on Sept. 12 in Building 4221 at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Bhaskaran presented Astrobotic’s Peregrine lunar lander which will deliver payloads to the surface of the Moon for government and commercial customers, including NASA.

Rob Morehead, lead propulsion engineer for Intuitive Machines in Houston, delivers the monthly Tech Talk on Oct. 24 at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Morehead presented Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C lunar lander, which will deliver payloads to the surface of the Moon for government and commercial customers, including NASA. Intuitive Machines was selected by the agency as one of the companies for NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Service program. Nova-C currently has five NASA payloads and two commercial payloads manifested for its first flight, slated to launch in 2021. It will reach the Moon six days after launch and operate on the lunar surface for 12 days. Morehead worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center for 20 years before joining Intuitive Machines.

STS-95 crew training - emergency egress training at bldg 9
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. --  While guests tour the new Convoy Command Vehicle (rear), Center Director Roy Bridges Jr. (center) talks to Launch Director Mike Leinbach.  The tour followed a commissioning ceremony for the new vehicle. The 40-foot vehicle is replacing a 15-year old model, and will be used following Shuttle landings as the prime vehicle to control critical communications between the orbiter, the crew and the Launch Control Center, to monitor the health of the Shuttle Orbiter systems and to direct convoy operations at the Shuttle Landing Facility. Upgrades and high-tech features incorporated into the design and development of this vehicle make it more reliable and efficient for the convoy crew. Seating capacity was increased from 4 to 12, and video recorders and television monitors were added to provide the convoy team with the maximum amount of visual information
