The Utility Annex, which provides 8,000 gallons of chilled water per minute to the VAB and other facilities in the Launch Complex 39 area, is being upgraded and repaired. The facility also contains boilers necessary to provide hot water to the VAB. The center’s Engineering Directorate is making the repairs and upgrades to the facility to prepare for the agency’s Artemis missions to the Moon and on to Mars.

Several upgrades have been completed in the crew quarters at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This includes new carpeting, paint, furniture and ceiling tiles. Located on the third floor of the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building, the crew quarters serves as the astronauts’ home as they prepare for missions. This will once again be the case as Kennedy moves closer to a return to human spaceflight. Pictured is a meeting room in the crew quarters.

The lounge area inside the astronaut crew quarters is where astronauts’ family members waited for their return upon landing during the Space Shuttle Program. Water piping is installed near the Thad Cochran Test Stand (B-1/B-2) at NASA’s Stennis Space Center in December 2014. The project to replace and upgrade the center’s high pressure industrial water system was a key milestone in preparations to test the SLS (Space Launch System) core stage ahead of the successful Artemis I launch.

During the Space Shuttle Program, the dining room of the astronaut crew quarters, located in the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, was a popular place. Located just off of the kitchen, the dining room features lighting that can simulate broad daylight or evening hours. As Kennedy builds toward a return to human spaceflight, the crew quarters are being prepared to once again house mission-bound astronauts.

The antenna of the Deep Space Network's Deep Space Station 43 (DSS-43) in Canberra, Australia, spans 70 meters (230 foot) and stands 73 meters (239 foot), dwarfing workers as they perform upgrades on the central cone that contains sensitive transmitters and receivers. A giant crane assisted with the replacement of parts that had been operating on the antenna for over 40 years. One of several antennas located at the Canberra Deep Space Network station, DSS-43 is the largest and responsible for transmitting commands to NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft.
