Korzun, Expedition Five mission commander, attired in his thermal undergarment prior to donning a Russian Orlan spacesuit, prepares for an upcoming session of extravehicular activity (EVA) from the Pirs docking compartment on the International Space Station (ISS). The spacewalk is scheduled for August 16, 2002, which will be the 42nd spacewalk at the station and the 17th based out of the station. Korzun and astronaut Peggy A. Whitson, flight engineer, will install six debris panels on the Zvezda Service Module. The panels are designed to shield Zvezda from potential space debris impacts. Korzun, who represents Rosaviakosmos, is also scheduled for a spacewalk on August 22, 2002.

STS112-E-5207 (12 October 2002) --- Cosmonaut Valery Korzun, Expedition Five commander, looks over data relevant  to preparations for an approaching spacewalk of the STS-112 mission. Korzun is one of three Rosaviakosmos  representatives supporting the joint in-space activities of the shuttle and station crews.  Two STS-112 crewmembers  were simultaneously preparing for the second scheduled extravehicular activity (EVA).  The suiting process and the actual EVA are documented in other Flight Day Six digital photos posted in this series.

STS079-353-023 (16-26 Sept. 1996) --- Cosmonaut Valeri Korzun, Mir-22 commander, is pictured near the camera rack on the Russian Mir Space Station's Base Block Module.  The photograph was taken by astronaut Shannon W. Lucid.  She later told an assembly of her Houston co-workers that she was able to experience the unique opportunity of serving with four different mission commanders in a span of approximately six months.  Cosmonauts Korzun and Aleksandr Kaleri, flight engineer, had earlier welcomed astronaut John E. Blaha aboard Mir as Lucid's replacement as cosmonaut guest researcher.
