STS-117 Crew Return Ceremony at Ellington Field

JSC2007-E-31803 (23 June 2007) --- The STS-117 crewmembers and Johnson Space Center's (JSC) director Michael L. Coats (right) are photographed during the STS-117 crew return ceremony on Saturday, June 23 at Ellington Field's Hangar 276 near JSC. From second right are astronauts Rick Sturckow and Lee Archambault, commander and pilot, respectively; Patrick Forrester, Steven Swanson, John "Danny" Olivas, Jim Reilly and Sunita Williams, all mission specialists. Williams, who was flight engineer on the Expedition 15 crew, achieved a new milestone, a record-setting flight at 194 days, 18 hours and 58 minutes, the longest single spaceflight ever by a female astronaut or cosmonaut.

University of Mississippi Leadership Visit NASA Stennis

Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MSET), a public-private partnership between Mississippi Development Authority, NASA, and Mississippi’s research institutions, hosted a visit for University of Mississippi leadership on Sept. 4 to NASA’s Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The visit showcased the center’s federal assets and the role Mississippi Enterprise for Technology plays in supporting industry and driving sustained economic development of the region and state. MMS Partial Solar Array Inspection

A plaque affixed to the side of a Magnetospheric Multiscale, or MMS, observatory dedicates the mission to Dr. John William Klein, now deceased, who served the MMS team as the standing review board chairman. MMS, led by a team from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, is a Solar Terrestrial Probes mission consisting of four identically instrumented spacecraft that will use Earth’s magnetosphere as a laboratory to study the microphysics of three fundamental plasma processes: magnetic reconnection, energetic particle acceleration and turbulence. Launch aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex 41 on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is targeted for March 12, 2015.
