Herrington is a tribally enrolled Chickasaw and the world’s first Native American astronaut, who last flew on mission STS-113 in 2002.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -  STS-114 Commander Eileen Collins autographs crew photos following the dedication of a hospital wing at the V.A. Outpatient Clinic in Viera, Fla. The wing was dedicated in honor of space shuttle Discovery, to be known as the Discovery wing. Collins and her crew have returned to Florida especially for a celebration in the KSC Visitor Complex of the successful return to flight mission that launched July 26 of this year.
