During the visit to Stennis, Mission Commander Steven Lindsey ( l to r), Pilot Eric Boe and mission specialists Alvin Drew, Steven Bowen, Michael Barratt and Nicole Stott recapped their historic flight and thanked site employees for providing main engines that performed 'as advertised.'

The crew of NASA’s Artemis II mission – NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen – visited the agency’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026. During an employee all-hands event, the crew reflected on their journey around the Moon, thanked Marshall team members for their contributions to the mission, and answered questions from the workforce. Artemis II was the first crewed mission of NASA’s Artemis campaign. Wiseman, Glover, Koch, and Hansen completed the approximately 10-day mission around the Moon in April 2026.

Four members of the STS-130 Endeavour space shuttle crew visited NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center on March 25 to thank facility personnel for their role in enabling the successful February mission to the International Space Station. Commander George Zamka (l to r), Pilot Terry Virts, and Mission Specialists Kathryn and Robert Behnken presented a video recap of their mission and answered questions from Stennis employees about their work. Hire especially thanked Stennis employees for providing the three main engines that powered the crew on their 14-day mission. On their mission, the STS-130 crew delivered a third connecting module - the Tranquility node - that will increase the space station's interior space for crew members and many life support and environmental control systems. Attached to Tranquility was a cupola, a robotic control station with seven windows to provide a panoramic view of Earth, celestial objects and visiting spacecrafts.

The astronauts visited the rocket engine testing facility to thank Stennis employees for contributions to their recent STS-128 space shuttle mission. All three of the main engines used on the mission were tested at Stennis. Sturckow served as commander for the STS-128 flight; Forrester was a mission specialist. During a 14-day mission aboard space shuttle discovery, the STS-128 crew delivered equipment and supplies to the International Space Station, including science and storage racks, a freezer to store research samples, a new sleeping compartment and an exercise treadmill. The mission featured three spacewalks to replace experiments and install new equipment at the space station.

STS-61 astronauts Kathryn Thornton, Jeffrey Hoffman and Thomas Akers (standing) sign autographs in Marshall Space Flight Center's Morris Auditorium, January 19, 1994. Space Shuttle crews traditionally visited NASA field centers following each mission to present mission highlights and recognize employees who made contributions to the Shuttle program. Many of the techniques used during the STS-61 Hubble Space Telescope Servicing mission were rehearsed at the Center's Neutral Buoyancy Simulator.

NASA astronaut Christina Koch speaks with members of the agency’s Artemis II Landing and Recovery team and partners from the Department of Defense on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, inside the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, during a visit by the Artemis II crew to the facility.

NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei, a flight engineer during International Space Station Expedition 53/54, visits NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center Nov. 9. He met with the Marshall team, American service veterans participating in the Wounded Warrior Project and area students, including Space Campers from the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Vande Hei flew to the space station in September 2017 and returned in February 2018. During his months in space, he performed two critical spacewalks to replace the gripping mechanism and cameras on Canadarm2, and to lubricate newly installed components.
