First motion out of the Vehicle Assembly Building was at 8:10 p.m.  July 10, and the shuttle was hard down on the pad at 3:02 a.m. July 11.  On the left is the fixed service structure with the orbiter access arm already extended to the orbiter.  The top of the 290-foot-tall water tank is seen to the right of the shuttle. First motion out of the VAB was at 8:10 p.m.  July 10, and the shuttle was hard down on the pad at 3:02 a.m. July 11. The orbiter access arm is already extended to the orbiter from the fixed service structure at left.  On top of the structure is the 80-foot-tall lightning mast that helps provide protection from lightning on the pad.  The shuttle sits on a mobile launcher platform.
